Harvest Timing:

Sold Out Until 2025 Harvest

Each autumn California's 2 big canneries and numerous local families harvest the olive crop for brining green olives. If you're interested in trying to brine your own at home, we'll ship fresh olives to you as long as your address is in the contiguous 48 US states.

You love both big and small olives!

Last year we received requests for the option to purchase 20lbs of olives, but to mix them. The Sevillano and Manzanillo olives come from different orchards so harvest timing, labor availability, and other logistics may not allow us to physically mix the two varieties, however, we're going to test getting two 10 lb boxes, one each of Sevillano and Manzanillo to you so you have both variety AND the discounted price. Importantly, we'll do this so that the olives are only shipped if both are freshly harvested.

Sevillano Olives

Sevillano is a variety originating in Seville, Spain where they are known as Gordal, (the Fat One). These olives are are commonly marketed in the US as Queen olives or colossal olives, referring to their large size. They have a firm flesh and large pit with very little oil, making them ideal for curing but not too efficient for making olive oil.

Manzanillo Olives

The Manzanillo variety is also originally from Spain likely propagated from cuttings by Spanish missionaries the same time as the Sevillano olive was introduced. "Manzis" as they are affectionately called by locals, are a dual purpose fruit which are good for making oil and also for canning. There is a chance that the canned California "ripe black olives" or "natural green ripe olives" you find in the grocery store and sliced on pizzas are very likely Manzanillo olives from our town.

How we ship

All orders are hand packed to order and shipped via UPS Ground from the American Olive Farmer "Fresh Olive Rally Point" in Corning. Shipping charges are based on two 10 lb boxes strapped together.
