20 lb Box Fresh Manzanillo Olives
October 7 Manzanillo Harvest Update
We are working diligently to catch up on harvesting and packing orders after the delay caused by last week's rain storm. Requests are processed in the order received, however, we're shipping orders east of the Rockies first due to the longer transit time.
Important: Manzanillo is ripening to the point where buyers should expect some percentage of purple fruit. We've moved all production to "Late Harvest" to reflect this stage of ripeness, however, will do our best to pack as you require. If you require greener fruit, ask for shipping week of October 7th. If you require riper fruit or any special handling please specify in the notes or call Liz at 530-727-2004 to place your order by phone or ask any questions you have so we can meet your needs.
All fruit is freshly harvested and packed to order, so if you do not yet have a UPS tracking number it is because your fruit is still on the tree!
Yes, you can cure fresh raw olives at home!
Olives will be harvested daily, weather permitting, packed Monday through Saturday, and shipping via UPS Ground Monday through Friday.
Eary, Mid, and Late Harvest waves will be released for purchase separately as the crop matures. Exact dates will be determined by Mother Nature, and Liz will do her best to keep you informed.
These are fresh, raw green olives for sale. Each autumn, typically early September through mid October, California's 2 commercial canneries and numerous local families harvest the olive crop for brining table olives for eating. If you're interested in trying to brine your own, we'll ship a 20 lb box of fresh Manzanillo olives to you as long as your address is in the contiguous 48 US states.
Manzanillo Olive Information
The Manzanillo variety is originally from Seville, Spain likely propagated from cuttings by Spanish missionaries the same time as the Sevillano olive was introduced. "Manzis" as they are affectionately called by locals, are a dual purpose fruit which are good for making oil and also for canning. There is a chance that the canned California "ripe black olives" or "natural green ripe olives" you find in the grocery store and sliced on pizzas are very likely Manzanillo olives from our town.
How we ship
All orders are hand packed to order and shipped via UPS Ground from the American Olive Farmer "Fresh Olive Rally Point" in Corning. Shipping charges are based on a 20 lb box plus packaging.
If 20 lbs is too much, we also offer Manzanillo Olives in a 10 lb box.
20 lb box is 16" x 10" x 7.5"
10 lb box is 16" x 9" x 5"
A note about Size
The second image here is a fit estimate I did based on the 2023 crop of Manzanillo. The olives vary in size, however, based on the average sized bins we brought in, I was able to fit 19.3 oz of raw olives in a 32 oz (1 quart) Kerr wide mouth canning jar. By volume (not weight) I estimate you'll be able to process 18 or more jars of olives with a 20 lb box of Manzanillos.
