Watch Glass Covers for Olive Oil Tasting Glasses, Box of Twelve

Purpose

Each watch glass is sized to fit the International Olive Council tasting glass specification and serves two important purposes: it helps retain the sample's volatile aromas while protecting the oil from dust and airborne contaminants before evaluation. The IOC specifies that the watch glass should be 10 mm larger than the mouth of the tasting glass, making a 60 mm diameter cover the correct size for the standard 50 mm tasting glass.

During Sensory Evaluation

During formal sensory evaluation, the tasting glass remains covered while the sample is warmed to approximately 28 °C (82 °F). The taster gently rotates the covered glass to coat its interior before removing the watch glass immediately prior to evaluating the aroma. This simple procedure helps preserve the volatile compounds that are essential to accurate sensory assessment.
